Hello SETI Institute Supporters and Friends -
What an exciting time this is – with the recent discovery of Kepler 22b, which I was personally a part of, the spectacular solar eclipse that wowed us all this past weekend, and the fact that SETIcon II is just around the corner…so much to be energized about! On top of that, I get to be the first to announce that the much anticipated conference schedule is now available: http://seticon.com/2012/program/! There may be a few tweaks that happen between now and the event but this will give you a good idea of what to expect. You will, of course, not want to miss my two panels: Do Any Exoplanets Have Intelligent Occupants? and The Kepler Mission: Revolutionizing Astronomy for the 21st Century.
As a special highlight at this year’s SETIcon, there will be a Gala Dinner honoring Jill Tarter. As you may have heard in the news, Jill will pass the role
of Director of the Center for SETI Research on to Gerry Harp and she will focus her energies on fundraising to keep THE Search alive and the organization afloat. Your attendance at SETIcon II is a direct support of the Institute and its scientists so your presence is appreciated.
I am thrilled to be part of an event with Jill Tarter and so many of my other esteemed colleagues. I look forward to the lively discussions that are sure to ensue. Until then, I am off to analyze data from Kepler. It is my hope that you will decide to attend SETIcon II, not only so you can enjoy an entertaining weekend of science and imagination but also to support the SETI Institute in its quest for life in the universe. Act now as ticket prices increase on June 4th!
Jon Jenkins Analysis Lead (Co-Investigator) for Kepler, NASA and the SETI Institute
For attendees who wish to make this event a full experience, the SETIcon II event team has secured a block of rooms at the Hyatt Santa Clara at the very reasonable rate of $109/night! This rate fizzles out on May 29th and is subject to availability. The Santa Clara Hyatt is convenient to San Jose International Airport, light rail, and other Silicon Valley attractions.
